“Look, he has placed the land in front of you! Go up, take possession of it, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, said to do. Do not be afraid or discouraged!”
God gave the land of Canaan to Israel. But the people still had to take possession of it and drive out the pagan inhabitants. The first time Israel quailed from the task.
Salvation is given to man through the sacrifice of Christ. This free gift must be possessed by obedience and perseverance. Shall I shrink from developing it fully?

“Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who does not need to be ashamed, teaching the message of truth accurately.”
2 Timothy 2.15
Paul tells Timothy that a great part of his approval by God depends upon how carefully and accurately he teaches the truth.
What is involved in making every effort in order to be approved by God?

The world and many in Christ are stupid. So says Prov 2.1-5. When our people can sing worldly lyrics all day long, but have trouble coming up with one or two verses by memory, according to Solomon, they are stupid.
My child, if you receive my words,
and store up my commands within you,
by making your ear attentive to wisdom,
and by turning your heart to understanding,
indeed, if you call out for discernment—
raise your voice for understanding—
if you seek it like silver,
and search for it like hidden treasure,
then you will understand how to fear the Lord,
and you will discover knowledge about God.
Do you see this happening among us? With some, yes. With many others, it is not. These are seeking other things, and it shows.
Don’t be stupid. Make a scene and get wisdom. Be a mental hoarder of the word of God. Be obvious about knowing Christ. Make fearing the Lord your absolute and only priority.
Only by doing all of this will we get a handle on what it means to be a Christian.

Here’s an interesting “good news” story from our local newspaper about a lost dog by the name of “Patches,” and the efforts to find him.
After reading this “search and rescue” story, I wonder what would happen if we as Christians put as much effort into “searching” and “rescuing” those who are lost in sin, as this lady did in finding this lost dog.
It’s something to think about!
