When speaking to others, we often choose words meant to make the other person feel good. Many preachers likewise preach sermons for the sole purpose of making the congregation feel better about themselves. This, in and of itself, is not a bad thing. However when soothing words are used in place of firm, truthful words that may sting, great harm arises. (More …)

I had the privilege of giving my parents a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party a few weeks ago. It’s sad, but so few couples make it that far in our society these days that I wanted to make a really big deal out of it. So… we had a fully catered reception and invited their entire congregation with professionally printed invitations. All my siblings and their entire families attended. I think it’s really important to positively reinforce good examples so that society sees how it *should* behave. It’s also important to set these examples before our children so they see what is right and acceptable before God.
