    11-21-2016 Global Cooling

“Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast” (Psalm 33:8-9 NKJV).  God is “awe-some,” not some car, good food, nice clothes, or a store bargain! No one has created from nothing, like He did, or organized it by command as He has. Daniel said, God “changes the times and the seasons” (Daniel 2:21 NKJV). There is no “global warming” unless God has decreed it, not some politician with fake “science.” He said, “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease” (Genesis 8:22 NKJV).  The earth still remains, so “globally,” there are seasons.  After an extended summer with drought, our North American part of the “globe” is having “winter,” just as God decrees!

    12-29-2015 God Or Politics

“While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease” (Genesis 8:22 NKJV). God’s decree of weather patterns for the entire earth will outlast any political power grab disguised as “Global Warming.” As soon as temperatures hit over 70 degrees, political “boo birds” fly in chirping their tune. While rain, flooding, and tornados, fed by warm temperatures, devasted Central and Eastern Texas on December 25-26; the back side of that weather front dumped 12 inches of snow in Roswell, New Mexico, snow drifts several feet tall in Lubbock, Texas, freezing rain sheets of ice in Calumet, Oklahoma, 2-3 inches of sleet in Paducah, Texas. The “Global Warming” mantra is reduced to “Partial State Freeze/Warming.” Truly, “the foolishness of God is wiser than men” (1 Corinthians 1:25 NKJV).

In March of 2007 I watched John Coleman, the founder of the Weather Channel, say global warning is a crock! He was threatening to sue Al Gore and believes it is the only way the truth will ever be known. He said that the media darlings, encouraged by celebrities and pseudo-science, have jumped aboard Al’s bandwagon and are parroting his glib campaign. Coleman calls it, “the greatest scam in history.” As I think about it, the founder of the Weather Channel ought to know a whole lot more about it than a politician with an axe to grind. Global Warming is a fraud? It goes to show you that if you say something often enough and convincingly, most folks are going to believe it whether it is so or not. This is Just A Minute

(#199) The Proverbs of Solomon 29:27-Sticks and Stones and Intimidation

Since God Created humans, only God can provide specific understanding of human behavior. God gave Solomon Divine Wisdom (1 Kings Chapters 3 and 10) to explain what and why behavior is as it is, and Proverbs 10:1-24:34 are randomly written, as if they were Solomon’s judgments about individual cases brought to him, or simply God-given explanations about life. New Testament passages may help see the continuation of Wisdom offered through Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 29:27: “An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, And he who is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.”

There has always been bitter antagonism between those who practice evil and those who practice good. The explanation for the first murder in the world (Genesis 4:1-15) is clearly given in the New Testament: “By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks” (Hebrews 11:4); “In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous. Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you” (1 John 3:10-13).

Which is exactly why it is useless and wrong for those who follow God’s Way (the righteous) to seek the approval and acclaim from the worldly. Ungodly teachers refuse to let righteous students get good grades if they have written truthfully about the Bible, Jesus Christ, or moral goodness! Ungodly entertainers ridicule the righteous who speak out from their honest, godly convictions! Ungodly parents punish and discourage their righteous children from Bible classes or studying the Word of God! Ungodly propagandists who use overwhelming headlines to “beat back” any and every attempt of the righteous to uphold and defend the existence of God! Ungodly Evolutionists and Global Warming fanatics who falsely label as “unscientific” any and all who use scientific facts to debunk and discredit those attacks on Bible faith! Ungodly accrediting boards set materialistic standards which, when “Christian Schools” accept and meet those standards, have made “Christian schools” nothing more than another worldly school!

Jesus offered His reward to the righteous: “Blessed are you when men hate you, And when they exclude you, And revile you, and cast out your name as evil, For the Son of Man’s sake. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets” (Luke 6:22-23).

Hugh’s News & Views (This And That)

    HUGH’S NEWS & VIEWS

THIS AND THAT FROM HERE AND THERE

From time to time, I have a potpourri of things about which to write. I save them for a “catch up” column of loosely collected items, as is the case today.

Three weeks ago I wrote a column on “Preaching” about which I received a ton of positive responses, along with a couple of negative ones. I am happy to say that we have a whole host of able, committed, faithful, “book, chapter, and verse” preachers, both old and young. But sometimes in moments of reflection on the future of the church, I think about such notable preachers/evangelists as V. P. Black, W. A. Bradfield, George Bailey, Charles Coil, Willard Collins, C. E. McGaughey, Tom Holland, Alan Highers (the latter two are still on the firing line), as well as a host of others. In the words of the late George Jones’ country classic, I sometimes ask, “Who’s gonna fill their shoes?” (More …)

(#139) The Proverbs of Solomon 19:9-To Tell The Truth About Lies

Since God Created humans, only God can provide specific understanding of human behavior. God gave Solomon Divine Wisdom (1 Kings Chapters 3 and 10) to explain what and why behavior is as it is, and Proverbs 10:1-24:34 are randomly written, as if they were Solomon’s judgments about individual cases brought to him, or simply God-given explanations about life. New Testament passages may help see the continuation of Wisdom offered through Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 19:9: “A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies shall perish.”

Bearing “false witness” is the same as a “lie.” This is not the same as someone who misunderstands, isn’t sure, or otherwise is innocently ignorant of the facts. A “false witness” (liar) is stating as fact that which is intended to avoid the truth about someone or something. Since it is “Satan who deceives the whole world” (Revelation 12:9), God hates “a false witness who speaks lies” (Proverbs 6:19), and so should every righteous person (Psalm 119:104-“Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way;” Psalm 119:163-“I hate and abhor lying, But I love Your law”). Since we cannot know everything, as God does, we must rely upon witnesses to give us facts upon which to make our decisions. As we sift through human statements, God’s witness is always right, best, and objective. Other proverbs uphold this: “A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies will not escape” (Proverbs 19:5); “A disreputable witness scorns justice, And the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity” (Proverbs 19:28); “A man who bears false witness against his neighbor Is like a club, a sword, and a sharp arrow” (Proverbs 25:18).

“A false witness shall perish, But the man who hears him will speak endlessly” (Proverbs 21:28). And the tragedy is many will hear the man who speaks endlessly on a subject about which he has been sorely misinformed. “Evolution” is one of these subjects based entirely upon “false witness,” as there is no scientific fact, no passage of Scripture, and no common sense known to mankind that establishes any, or all, of the “lie.” “Global Warming” (now, “Climate Change”) is another subject about which only “false witnesses” are sure, while weather scientists and observers demonstrate that, for many decades, there is no “global warming” directly caused by humans (or occurring at all!). And God’s decree in Scripture (Genesis 8:22) continues to be obeyed throughout His Earth, regardless of media propaganda contrariwise. Since Satan is “the accuser of our brethren” (Revelation 12:10), then “gossip” about fellow humans is bearing “false witness” not based upon fact or our personal knowledge.

Jesus Christ was crucified by “false witnesses.” “Now the chief priests and all the council sought testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found none. For many bore false witness against Him, but their testimonies did not agree. Then some rose up and bore false witness against Him, saying, ‘We heard Him say, “I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.”’ But not even then did their testimony agree” (Mark 14:55-59). Jesus never said that of the “temple made with hands” but spoke “of the temple of His body” (John 2:19-22).

There is so much “false witness” being passed around, established truth centers around Jesus Christ, Who said, “for this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice” (John 18:37). Everyone who follows Jesus Christ will be truthful with him/herself, and with others, because “no lie is of the truth” (1 John 2:21).

Studies in the Book of Proverbs #9

(#9) God’s Wisdom is Beneficial, Universal, Calming 3:13-26

Verses 13-18: Wisdom is described as a woman with benefits, who appears to have only good things to bring to a person’s life. The contrast with the “immoral woman” (Proverbs 2:16-22) could not be greater, and should correct those who might think Solomon was against all women! An immoral woman can destroy a man, but Wisdom appearing as a woman can preserve a man. Wisdom makes a man “happy” (verse 13) because she is:

Profitable (verse 14) beyond possessing silver and gold. A wise life will make money to enjoy (Ecclesiastes 5:19), but a foolish one doesn’t know how to enjoy wealth (Ecclesiastes 6:2).

Precious (verse 15) beyond rubies, and nothing else is as desirable.

Prolongs life (verse 16) with her “right hand,” and the main rewards in life (“riches and honor”) in her “left hand.” This shows Wisdom has nothing in her hands but good.

Pleasant (verse 17) ways and paths of peace, instead of crooked ways and devious paths of the immoral woman. Could Wisdom be more appealing? Who does not look forward to a pleasant life, lived in peace?

Paradise (verse 18) is where the “tree of life” was when access was lost for all of us by Adam and Eve (Genesis 2:9; 3:22-24; Revelation 2:7). Wisdom will help us find the way back to that tree to live with God.

Verses 19-20: God’s Creation was designed with such wisdom, that all scientific discoveries are simply the uncovering of the Wisdom of God! The expression, “scientific discoveries” does not include “what is falsely called knowledge” (1 Timothy 6:20), such as Evolution, Global Warming, Global Cooling, ad nauseum. God imbedded “Wisdom” in Creating the earth, itself; God showed “understanding” in making “the heavens” so precisely; God used “knowledge” in Noah’s day when “all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened” (Genesis 7:11). The terms, “wisdom,” “understanding,” “knowledge,”  are not mutually exclusive, but complement each other.

Verses 21-26: The Wisdom of God inside a heart means there is NO FEAR in life! If we keep focused on sound Wisdom and discretion (good judgment), our life will be with grace (verses 21-22). Instead of blindly falling into sin(s), we can be more sure footed in our way (verse 23). Knowing that God’s Wisdom brings order to Creation, so His Wisdom brings order to our life (verses 24-26). Following God’s Wisdom is better than Benedryl, Lunesta or Ambien! Since the most-prescribed class of drugs in the United States is anti-depressants, God’s Wisdom is sorely needed! Jesus echoed this wise teaching about high anxiety in His Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:19-34).

All Scriptures and comments are based upon the New King James Version, unless otherwise noted.

    Pollution? – JAM

It seems everyone is up in the air about Global Warming these days. Renewable Energy is the phrase of the day. Massachusetts Governor Patrick calls the new Evergreen Solar Panel manufacturing plant in the town of Devens “the leading edge of our clean energy economy”. But neighbors are complaining that while one kind of pollution is being addressed, another is being ignored. The new plant puts out a steady dizzying, 24-hour-a-day blast of noise pollution. Farmers report that horses are developing ulcers and other animals are behaving strangely. It seems that no matter what we do, we always rob Peter to pay Paul. So why not set your affection on the things above, for the things of this world are passing away. This is Just-A-Minute with Ed Boggess

    How about that global warming?

I’m hoping Ed will hop on here and start doing this …

How about that global warming? Just before the big wigs and high ups meet in Denmark to talk about solutions, the news comes out that the books have been cooked! The British university that the United Nations relied on for evidence for global warming has been manipulating the figures and conspiring to discredit anyone who raised a differing view. Why? There’s big money involved. Financial grants and professional prestige is at stake. Whether it is weather or faith when bias undermines evidence and conclusions precede corroboration, an admission of error is much preferred to a coverup! This is Just-A-Minute with Ed Boggess inviting you to the Winchester Church of Christ.
