    Presenting the story without presenting the lesson 

    It seems as though, at least to me, that a certain element within Hollywood has decided to take several shots at producing Bible based media. To some people this is a good thing, but has Hollywood actually become Holywood within the last couple of years? I think not! That’s why when I take a step back and consider the source from which these “spiritual” waters are being drawn, the thing that bothers me is the duplicitous nature of these programs that the average person is completely blind to. You see, the media version is presenting the story without presenting the lesson, as their commercials and televised programs obviously reveal. Because sex, violence, betrayal and drama sells (I mean what major time-slot show doesn’t revolve around these principles?), and because the Bible contains plenty of sex, violence, betrayal and drama, Hollywood has decided to try and cash-in on what it considers to be the embarrassing, but also oh so carnally delectable and promotable, portions of the holy scriptures. It’s nothing but a backhanded compliment and attempt to exploit the very book, and the very God, that they abhor.

    When someone presents the salacious story without presenting the spiritual lesson, they make their point and reveal their intentions at the same time.

    “…They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.” (Jude 12-13)

    Have you noticed that every television show somehow works in a gay or lesbian couple nowadays? At the rate things are going, a straight couple or should I say normal couple will soon be as hard to find as A-1 in a Heinz ketchup factory. That Hollywood closet must be a big one. They look at me and say I’m homophobic. But I’m not homophobic, I’m a believer in the word of God. They look at me and compare me to a racist or anti-Semite bigot. But I am not a bigot, I am simply biased towards the Bible as God’s word. They say, look, some churches have practicing homosexuals as pastors. What another church chooses to do is their business, but what I choose to do is decided with one eye on the scriptures and the other on the Judgment Day. If God declares a certain behavior deviant and perverse, let not man claim it is normal and acceptable. This is Just-A-Minute.

      It is fine if you live your life according to Leviticus, but our republic is not based on scripture, so the only time I will dissent is when people try to use scripture to prohibit American citizens from the same rights that other American citizens enjoy. Basically, if you put that on the ballot as a referendum, I will vote no. If your candidate wants to do it, I will vote for the other’un.

        1 Corinthians 6:9-10 is not in Leviticus. Just because a person says the Bible teaches against the practice of homosexuality it doesn’t mean they are referencing scriptures that are found in Leviticus or any other book from the Old Testament.

          New Testament or Old, my objection stands. Our republic is not based on sacred scripture.

            The principles/principals of such republic are indeed based upon principles that are only found in the word of God, whether Old or New Testament:

            When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

            We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

              You must not be aware that the Declaration of Independence was replaced by the Constitution as the highest law of the land 11 years later.

              I’m not going to go back and forth my friend. You tried to make a point based on a point that was invalidated by New Testament scripture, and then you tried to say that our republic wasn’t based on principles that derive from scripture and again you side-step the point with another point that is pointless.

              Rule of law rather than authority of men – Declaration and Constitution – Ex. 18:24-27, Dt. 17:20, Isa. 8:19-20, Mat. 5:17-18

              Republican form of government and warnings against kings but in favor of Godly rulers – Constitution – Ex. 18:21, Dt. 1:13, Jud. 8:22-23, 1 Samuel 8, Pr. 11:14, 24:6

              Importance of governing self and family as first level of governance – First, Second, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments – Mat. 18:15-18, Gal. 5:16-26, 1 Cor. 6:1-11, 1 Tim. 3:1-5, Tit. 2:1-8

              Fair trial with witnesses – Sixth Amendment – Ex. 20:16, Dt. 19:15, Pr. 24:28, 25:18, Mat. 18:16

              Private property rights – Fifth Amendment – Ex. 20:15-17

    Award Shows…the Heart 

    It’s the award giving time of the year for Hollywood and all of its media branches. It’s a time when the “people choose” and all the little gold-plated men go to the brightest stars of the multibillion dollar industry. After all, who doesn’t like a good pat on the back? But at the end of the day, the awards given out show more than just who’s “number one” – they show the true heart of Hollywood.

    Look at the movies that win. You don’t have to watch the shows to find out. The news channels fall over themselves trying to tell you about it. The movies that win the vast, vast majority of the time are ethically, morally and socially rotten. They continually glorify and celebrate murder, prostitution, hate, violence, profanity, fornication, organized crime, greed, theft, lying and adultery. Whichever movie pushes the envelope the best usually ends up finding its name inside the envelope to get the award.

    “But the actors and actresses deserve an award because they make it look so real”, some say. Well I say if you want to see real then get out on the streets where real people suffer because of the things that Hollywood celebrate! But that wouldn’t be any fun would it? The claim of, “movies help to escape reality”, while reality is made up of the actions and behaviors that the movies celebrate just don’t make sense to me.

    Never forget, what goes in the heart comes out of the heart. This is true on a personal, community, cultural and national level. And if one considers the poor and disgusting behavior of people on the big or little screen award worthy, then that award helps to reveal what the heart really values. So who’s the winner of our heart going to be? It’ll be whoever we lay out the red carpet for.

    But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.” (Matthew 15:18-19 – NKJV)”

    Corruption 

         It is a mantra of Hollywood and others in the entertainment community to declare that their particular form of occupation (or entertainment) in no way can be linked to bad behavior. Violent video games,  secular and vulgar music, movies that portray godly values as a drag on a person or community, and such like cannot be scientifically be shown to affect society adversely, they assert.

    Someone forgot to tell the Lord about scientific studies. “Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals” (1 Cor. 15:33, ESV). The context of the remark in Corinthians pertains to those who deny the possibility of the resurrection; Paul deals with this denial as it relates to the Lord. He makes the application that with such influence being present, one is merely deceived to think it won’t pass from one to another. RT
