Who says the sky isn’t falling?

In the latest issue of the “Christian Chronicle”, an individual, in reference to SCOTUS’s decision concerning the “constitutionality” of homosexual marriages (and whose state had already began the process of legally recognizing homosexual marriages before June 26, 2015) was quoted as saying that the sky hadn’t fallen because homosexual marriages had been legalized. Perhaps I’m missing the sky for the clouds, but his comment, at least to me, sounded like a marginalization of the situation that was made toward any “chicken little” who warned about the seriousness of what was happening and what will happen because of America’s decision that day.

Yeah, the world is still ticking after June 26, 2015. People are still are going to work. People are being born. People are dying. People are even eating, drinking and, yes, people are even getting married! But this is true because of God’s long-suffering toward sin and his desire for our repentance from it (2 Peter 3:9); not because of some marginalization of its seriousness; and June 26, 2015 was a serious day with serious spiritual ramifications.

Fact is, for those who are familiar enough with the pictures of Revelation, cultures and kings, nations and economies, and even the “sky” itself can be in the process of falling without anyone outside of Heaven’s perspective even realizing it. And furthermore, I would remind people that it took a while for the raindrops of Noah’s day to reach the ground, but once that sky started falling there was no turning back, nor did all the water come from above. But that’s a whole other rainbow pride type of conversation.

So who says the sky isn’t falling? I don’t know. But what I do know is that I wouldn’t confuse our view of looking up for God’s view of looking down.

For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” Matthew 24:38-39

Can the leopard change its spots by the vote of man?

The complete mockery of God that comes from creeds and councils has reared its ugly head according to an article on AOL which begins by saying:

“[the] top legislative body of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has voted by large margins to recognize same-sex marriage as Christian in the church constitution, adding language that marriage can be the union of “two people,” not just “a man and a woman.”

I guess the “top legislative body of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)” has apparently decided to get into the work of the saddest sorts of comedy. Whether or not it is unbeknownst to them, this “legislative body” has just proven that they’re every bit as spiritually depraved as those who practice the newly sanctioned (not to be confused with sanctified) abomination of homosexuality within their church.

When it comes to what is “Christian” it is Christ who determines what is and what isn’t Christ-like. And the Christ of Christianity has spoken on the matter of marriage and who may and may not enter the God-ordained union (Matthew 19:1-9). The situation has not been left open for mankind to decide, for God has never taken a vote from humanity to determine what is and what is not moral, especially for his people, and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to read Jesus’ “epistles” to Pergamos and Thyatira amongst the other churches of Asia addressed in the letter better known as the Revelation of Jesus Christ. A council can change whatever words they like in a creed or some supposed constitution, but not a single word has been changed in the word of God concerning the issue.

Can depravity become moral with a majority vote? No more than a majority vote can change what is moral into depravity! And as Isaiah’s letter so plainly says, woe to those who think to the contrary (Isaiah 5:20).

And by the way, in case you may be wondering why the vast majority of people who make up the churches of Christ are so adamantly against councils and creeds, listen to this quote from the article; particularly to the description of the “constitution” under consideration. While speaking about the coming change to the “church constitution”, Bill Norton, of the Presbytery de Cristo, said:

We are laying hands on something that is holy, that God has given us, so we need to be sure any changes we make are in accord with God’s will revealed in Scripture,

If the will of God has been revealed in scripture then why is any other book, page or paragraph needed? And if it comes from God it cannot be changed by the will of man (John 10:34-36).

What will you say when He punishes you? For you have taught them to be chieftains, to be head over you. Will not pangs seize you, like a woman in labor? And if you say in your heart, “Why have these things come upon me?” For the greatness of your iniquity your skirts have been uncovered, your heels made bare. Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Then may you also do good who are accustomed to do evil. “Therefore I will scatter them like stubble that passes away by the wind of the wilderness. This is your lot, the portion of your measures from Me,” says the Lord, “Because you have forgotten Me and trusted in falsehood. Therefore I will uncover your skirts over your face, that your shame may appear. I have seen your adulteries and your lustful neighings, the lewdness of your harlotry, your abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! Will you still not be made clean?”” (Jeremiah 13:21-27)

It’s only a matter of time now

Whether or not you know it, homosexual marriage is now legal in all 50 states. It’s only a matter of time.

“But my state has a law defining marriage as a relationship between one man and one woman,” you might say. Well, it doesn’t matter your state says because of what happened to the Defense Of Marriage Act. Still don’t think so? Go ask the judges in Utah what they based their decision on. I wonder how much of the minority even know what I’m talking about.

Thanks to many Christian people who voted in a President who did, and is still doing, exactly what he said he was going to do and thanks to some “Supreme Court” justices (to which more than one was appointed by the sitting President) who have no respect for what the family is called to be, the whole situation is not a matter of if – it’s a matter of when. That is unless some huge shift in the political (and the moral) fabric of America takes place…I’ll be waiting, but I won’t hold my breath.

Now do you still think that morality shouldn’t play a role in politics???

Time will tell, and it’ll tell more than one thing. So while clock counts down on one issue, I believe the clock is still ticking on another, but the question is, “How fast are the hands moving?”

And this is the writing which was recorded, Mene, tekel, peres.” (Daniel 5:25)

How Fast the Slippery Slope Carries Us(a)!

For three weeks in a row an American state has “legalized” homosexual marriages (New Hampshire, Delaware and Minnesota). It’s sad, but amazing, how fast the smoke blinds the eyes of a nation to the truth (Revelation 9:2), but ere goes the truth of a slippery slope – the farther down you go, the faster you go!

And the surprising thing to me about it all is the virtual silence that’s coming with it. Most people don’t even know that these states are approving of something which is un-approvable. This is the tactic that’s now in play…out of sight, out of mind. Come to think about it, we’re already out of our minds, so it might as well be out of sight!

How any individual can say “God Bless America” and at the same time say “homosexuals deserve the God-given right of marriage” with a straight face is beyond me. What God do they want blessing America? The god of their fleshly appetite (Philippians 3:19) – that’s which god!

I thank my God – who is the God – for the freedoms that He has provided through His hand of providence; a hand I pray that continues to be us through the leaders who may still have an ounce of both common sense and spiritual sense (1 Timothy 2:1-3).

The truth will continue to spread, the cross will still be victorious and God will continue to reign from His throne in Heaven regardless of how fast the slippery slope carries us as a nation away from all three. The kingdom of God is eternal – the kingdoms of men are only dust in the scales of time (Isaiah 40:15).

The nations have sunk down in the pit which they made; In the net which they hid, their own foot is caught. The Lord is known by the judgment He executes; The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Meditation. Selah. The wicked shall be turned into hell, And all the nations that forget God.” (Psalm 9:15-17)

Ripen and Rotten

The way fruit progresses and regresses is simply amazing. Its growth takes time, care, patience, etc. Its death doesn’t take much and is can hastened in multiple ways.

Nations have a funny way of mirroring fruit. They grow slowly, building piece by piece, and then all of a sudden you have a strong, vibrant, working nation that has a future unrivaled by many others. On the other hand, their demise is eerily similar to an oxidizing, softening and withering piece of fruit that no one has any interest in other than those who wish to get drunk of its fermentation.

On May 17, 2004 the first American state (Massachusetts) legalized homosexual marriages. Less than a decade later, with the addition of Delaware as of May 7, 2013, the total is now 11!

America has ripened slowly. Over 230 years after out official “birth” and we still haven’t topped out our potential, but potential doesn’t get anyone anywhere – actions do! As for our potential, we’re flushing it down the toilet. All of the hard work, dedication and correction of past national errors are being wiped out one government (of the people, for the people and by the people, mind you) law at a time. The speed at which we have gone from a ripe nation to a morally rotten nation is amazing. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the nation has ever been perfectly upright across all spectrums. But what I am saying is that as a nation we are quickly getting to a point to where we don’t have any eyes to see the spectrum!

God justly and righteously judges nations – all of them! The book of Daniel reminds the world through the recorded correction of Nebuchadnezzar that:

This decision is by the decree of the watchers, and the sentence by the word of the holy ones, in order that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, gives it to whomever He will, and sets over it the lowest of men.” (Daniel 4:17)

God has a time line and a purpose with every nation, and it is not my place to say where exactly America disappears from her usefulness to God’s will concerning both good and evil (2 Peter 3:9); but I can say that like fruit which has seen better days, there is more going on that what simply appears to the eye. A nation that has had the ability to do so much good spiritually speaking has been in the cross of hairs of the dragon for quite some time, but by the grace of God we have found ourselves on the more enjoyable end of God’s providence, but as we choose to stop ripening and start rotting from the inside out, the falling mountains, sun, moon and stars may begin to pick up speed.

What’s a Christian to do? If we’re an American we have our political influence – voting, writing and calling our elected officials, etc. But more so we have a heavenly mandate to continue being the salt and the light that purifies and stays off the threatening’s of darkness loving bacteria through prayer and actions. In other words, we aren’t called to hold back the witness of our godliness in the midst of ungodliness whether they have eyes to see or not.

The scales of time will reveal God’s plan soon enough, but until then the scales of righteousness, temperance and judgment to come will reveal whether or not the fruit is gaining weight or loosing it – for that’s what the ripening and rotting process produces.

Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, and taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, and showed Him the way of understanding? Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust on the scales; Look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing.” (Isaiah 40:13-15)

The USA Today editorial proclaimed “Don’t let gay…

The USA Today editorial proclaimed: “Don’t let gay marriage and the dismantling of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ lull us into complacency.” Right below was a picture taken from the Gay Pride Parade staged in San Diego last July and that was followed by a list of so-called high-profile successes. The point of the whole article was to rally the troops to continue demanding more and more of what they claim are their rights. The truth is they are wrongs. They wrong decency, home and family, morality, and what is normal and natural. It is wrong because it is perverse. My wife raises chickens. Suppose all the hens paired off with hens and all the roosters with roosters. It would be unnatural and perverse. And she’d soon be out of business. This is Just-A-Minute with Ed Boggess
