Preamble to the State Constitution of Illinois

“We, the People of the State of Illinois—grateful to Almighty God for the civil, political and religious liberty which He has permitted us to enjoy and seeking His blessing upon our endeavors—in order to provide for the health, safety and welfare of the people; maintain a representative and orderly government; … [a number of proper responsibilities accepted] … do ordain and establish this Constitution for the State of Illinois. Ratified by the People, December 15, 1970”

One is not grateful to God in action when policies are in force that are contrary to the words of the Almighty! Will God bless a people in any locale that looks upon His name as a tool to be used for self-praise in their progressive ways? That was the way they looked upon God in Isaiah’s day (cf. Isaiah 5:20).

Brethren, if you have accepted the Lord’s call to be a Christian, then reconfirm your commitment to Him; He is Lord of all and merciful to those who love and obey Him. When you do this, take up the Sword of the Spirit and wield it properly as it resides in your heart (Col. 3:16) and becomes a word to the wise for those who are weary (Matt 11:28-30). RT

Clinton, IL news

Last night we had wonderful dinner in our home for 4 preachers and their wives (they all drove between 30 – 75 minutes to come). It was warm enough to grill out burgers and chicken and feast on beans, corn, potato salad, chips, smores, and a bunch of other things I can’t even remember. It was a good time. I’m blessed to have some good preaching buddies in central IL. I’m even more blessed to have a wife who loves to be hospitable (even when she is due with baby #4 on April 12th!).

And speaking of my dear wife, she thoroughly enjoyed a baby shower the ladies here hosted for her this afternoon. Nothing elaborate, but they loaded her up on diapers! It was very kind of them to do.
