His Child

Rising Joy by Vicki Matheny

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven – only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Matthew 7.21

People can easily become arrogant if left to their own devises. This is even more visible in the religious world. Religious leaders have twisted God’s word to say what benefits them, 2 Peter 3.16. They do not respect God’s word; therefore, they lack respect for God.

In Matthew 21.28-32, Jesus told a parable about two sons. Their father had told them both to go to the field and work. One son refused to go, then changed his mind and went. The other son told his father that he would go and did not. Jesus asked which of the two had done the father’s will. It was the son, who, though in the beginning refused to go, had a change of heart and went.

You can call Jesus ‘Lord’. However, if you do not obey his word, you are unknown to him. He will not acknowledge you before God. You might be a good person in your own eyes, but what is important is how God sees you. This is why it is so important to read and study God’s word! You need to know what it says so that you can obey it. Otherwise, on the last day, God will not know you as one of his children.

A Poem about The Lordship of Jesus

Here’s a little poem that I wrote about the Lordship of Jesus this morning. I didn’t really have enough time to come up with a proper title, so if you can think of one that fits really well pass it along in a comment. I hope you find it useful for something.

It goes without saying, there is no doubt

Jesus is Lord of all, He’ll return with a shout

He’s the Light of the world, shining brightly for all

But have you closed your eyes, sadly ignoring His call?

If your answer is yes, then with your heart repent

Quit fighting His grace; allow your resistance to relent

For if we remain stubborn, spurning the grace-filled call

Then we’ll one day we’ll see, that He’s truly Lord of all!

So walk in the light, for that way is safe

He’ll help us along, He’ll watch over our fate

But if we delay, and walk not in the way

We will still take a knee, but in a whole different way!

And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:8-11)

Situations

Situations rule many people.

Tonight, as we were starting the car, we found out the battery was dead. They can make a sensor that can tell how much oxygen is going into the car’s engine, but they can’t make a light or send a message to say the battery is dead.

It didn’t matter much. We went out to eat with four of our dear church brothers and sisters and didn’t worry about it. The Lord will help me iron things out.

“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,” (Matthew 6:33a). If Judy and I do that, the Lord will take care of the rest. All I have to do is trust and obey. If Jesus is the center of our lives (he never changes you know), then what situation is there that can really affect us?

Want to change your life from nursing situations to having the confidence to meet life head on? Make Jesus the center of your life and find out what peace of mind is all about (Romans 5:1).

I know the Lord is good because…

I know the Lord is good because he loves. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son,” (John 3:16).

I know the Lord is good because he has given us his word. Had the Lord been anything but good, he would never have given us his will. “Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee,” (Psalm 119:11). God is good because he not only gives man his will, but by that gift, provides man a way in which he can be pleasing to God all the days of this life.

I know the Lord is good because he loved me when I was unlovely. “”But, God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us,” (Romans 5:8). While I was a base sinner, the Lord loved me and gave me a sin sacrifice. The word, “commendeth” is a word which describes demonstration. In the American Standard Version, the verse says, “But, God commendeth his OWN LOVE toward us…” God demonstrated his own love toward us not because we were Americans, not because we were Jews or Greeks or men or women or of European or native American decent, but because we were sinners.

I know God is good for these reasons and more.

If Jesus is Lord

If Jesus is Lord then “All authority” both in heaven and on earth is now His Matt 28:18). He now rules in the heavenly realm – 1 Pe 3:22 “who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.”; Ep 1:20-23 “that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.” He also rules over the kings of the earth! – Re 1:5 “and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood “; Psa 2:1-12 “Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.”; 110:1-6 “The LORD says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.”Psa 110:2 The LORD sends forth from Zion your mighty scepter. Rule in the midst of your enemies! Your people will offer themselves freely on the day of your power, in holy garments; from the womb of the morning, the dew of your youth will be yours. The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.” The Lord is at your right hand; he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath. He will execute judgment among the nations, filling them with corpses; he will shatter chiefs over the wide earth.”

With “all authority” in heaven and on earth Jesus certainly deserves our obedience to Him as Lord – Ac 2:36 “Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”; Lk 6:46 “‘Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?” Jesus certainly can deliver on His promises – 2 Pe 1:2-5 “May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge,
In light of the above I must be a willing servant and steward in full obedience to Him and His word.

Daily Nudge: If — and news

Complete the sentence

If Jesus is Lord, then ...

The Daily Nudge comes in a different form today, a schoolish form, for the Fellows to complete a sentence: “If Jesus is Lord, then …” Plenty of room for the mind to work and the eyes to search the word of God.

Yesterday the Nudge asked about home appliances. I wanted to finish out the day mentioned that these are supposedly time-saving devices. But with the washers, dryers, microwaves, dishwashers, can openers, slow cookers and crock pots, refrigerators and other various and sundry gadgets — oh, Laura reminds me of the coffee makers — have we gotten any real advantage from all of these? Throw in the computers and printers and scanners to boot. Makes me wonder. Not that I’d like to go back a couple of hundred years. Not at all.

One could make the argument that the most indispensable home appliance is the altar. That’s what people used to call family worship. No physical altar, but the concept of family worship to God as a sacrificial offering. The term wasn’t perhaps so well employed, but fathers actually gathered their children to hear the word of God read, to pray together, to be instructed in the ways of the Lord. Seems so quaint, almost more so than the word “altar” itself. That appliance has gone the way of Pong.

Glenda is speed-reading her New Testament, some of the rest of us are slow-reading it. At whatever speed and whatever the plan, just read and absorb. And obey. I really appreciate Ron posting the daily Bible reading comments. Please give those attention. They are carefully prepared.

I’m bereft of news. Have you any? ask I, in the tone of one lady of the house asking for a cup of sugar over the wall to another.
