I’m not a horticulturist or even a nurseryman, but I have spent a whole lot of time in the woods. During that time I’ve seen a lot of neat things and a lot of weird things. Today I saw a new thing that made me say, “What is that?”
So I ask you, “What is it?” Continue reading
If this doesn’t fit “a creeping thing upon the earth” to a tee, then I don’t know what does.
I found him crawling around behind my house as we were leaving last week. He was “eye-catching” to say the least. Continue reading
Have you heard about the nationally known rap star getting arrested on the Interstate in Tennessee? We (meaning my family) actually saw his bus parked at an old Interstate gas station. I suppose it was waiting for a new driver, or a piggyback ride to the impound station. We didn’t know it was his bus at the time, but you could tell it belonged to someone with more than five figures in the bank. After we heard about the story on social media and the local news, we knew who the bus belonged to.
That same day we saw something that you wouldn’t want to be on the wrong side of (see the picture with the shiny thing attached to its barrel and you’ll get why I’m saying what I’m saying). While the previously mentioned group “lived it up”, this group was spending the weekend working. I know it’s not Veteran’s Day, but thank you to all those who have honorably served America in the armed forces.
On the way home, again on the Interstate, I saw someone changing out a flat tire on the right shoulder of the road. Another car had already pulled over either to help or because they were traveling together; I couldn’t tell which it was…maybe both But the thing that stuck out to me about the situation was the number of vehicles that refused to get over while this guy changed the tire that was on his front driver side of the car. Do the math correctly and you’ll figure it out why that frustrated me – especially if you’ve felt the power of a passing vehicle on the Interstate while sitting on the shoulder. Either the people on the road weren’t paying attention and didn’t see him until they were up on him, or they just didn’t care.
The other day, while driving down the road (this time not on the Interstate) I saw a goat with a stick taped to his horns! If you have any experience with goats then you know why. If you can’t figure it out, ask and I’ll tell you why.
Have you ever thought about the number of stories in the Bible that center around things that happened while someone was on the road? Most people could probably think “The Good Samaritan” rather quickly, but there are actually several of them worth noting for the sake of the lesson that it teaches. Share the ones that come to your mind if you like.
“Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.” (Matthew 22:9-10)
A picture, a question and a story about prayer walk into TFR…and no, this isn’t a joke (and some would find the use of a double-negative even less funny!).
The picture: Here’s a rather dizzying picture from my back yard. It’s the branches of my cork-screw willow tree thoroughly covered in ice; and it’s also my computer wallpaper for now. Unfortunately the ice was enough to break off the top seven or eight feet of this tree.
The question: How big were Samson’s muscles? Seriously. Every picture drawn of him is comparable to someone who has won the “Mr. Universe” award, but if memory serves me correctly (and maybe it doesn’t) the Bible never describes his physical stature. Did his muscles have to be abnormally large? Perhaps it’s a “useless question”, but then again maybe it’s not. Think about it – it might just be a matter of faith.
The story: The story isn’t a joke, or then again maybe it is. I don’t remember where I got it from; I’ve had it lying around in the ole’ computer filing cabinet for quite a while. Either way, it’s yours to use to the glory of God’s truth. “A little girl, dressed in her Sunday best, was running as fast as she could, trying not to be late for Bible class. As she ran she prayed, ‘Dear Lord, please don’t let me be late! Dear Lord, please don’t let me be late!’ While she was running and praying, she tripped on a curb and fell, getting her clothes dirty and tearing her dress. She got up, brushed herself off, and started running again! As she ran she once again began to pray, ‘Dear Lord, please don’t let me be late… But please don’t push me either!’” You know there’s a lesson in there just waiting to be told.
I was at a big-box store last Saturday evening (11-22-14) just browsing the aisles with my family when a big stack of boxes with bright green stickers on them grabbed my attention and I had to take a picture of it:
If a picture is worth a thousand words then what does this picture say?
And as a follow-up, do you plan on doing any shopping this weekend?
And one more thing, just so you know it wasn’t an accident, there was more than one stack of boxes (i.e. different products) with the above stickers on them.
What photo or wall hanging on your walls at home right now is your favorite? Tell us the story behind it, and share a picture of it, if you can. It may be of family, or a precious work of art, or a needlepoint or embroidered heirloom. Might even be the head of that game animal bagged in Africa. But today it’s the favorite and not the most unusual. 🙂
