Pray for Richard M.’s mom, her health has taken a turn for the worse. Tonight or tomorrow Richard is headed to his parents’ city to be with them.
Jody Apple just shared this:
My father-in-law, Milton Hobbs, suffered a stroke while teaching Bible class Sunday at the Media, Penn., congregation. He was taken first to Riddle Memorial Hospital then flown to Jefferson in Phila. Tests confirm a major hemorraghic stroke with virtually no possibility of recovery. Please keep the Hobbs/Apple extended family in prayer. Updates later. In Christ, Jody Apple
This came through Lynn Huff, whom I know:
I have just at this moment received a phone call from Roberto Alvarez, director of BICA-Guatemala. He was calling from the hospital with a bad case of hemorrhaging dengue. He could only speak for a moment because of his weakened condition. His voice was weak as he could only ask for prayers. He did indicate that his blood platelets were in trouble. His life is jeopardy! I ask that you and all that you know pray strongly for this Godly man. He is my very close friend, and he is so very important to the work in Guatemala.
Please spread the word.
O Lord, for you a locked door is but an invitation to bring your peace. May our closed hearts be ruptured by your invasion.
I would appreciate it very much if you would ask your people to pray for the son of Tim Stamper, Aaron, who has leukemia. Tim is a minister of the Church of Christ in Erwin TN. Aaron is very sick and even after the transplant he still remains in much needed prayer if his life is to be spared. He has left the Memphis St Jude Hospital and is now at home. The doctors have told them that there is nothing else they can do. I need all prayer warriors to pray that God will spare this young man. He is 14 years old. Thanks, Sue Huffman
Several times I’ve wanted to answer one of my own Nudges — I’ve missed most of them over the last week or so. Somehow my mind can’t settle down long enough to do that. I travel tomorrow night for the U.S., to spend a month, as many of you know, in a second attempt to replace personal funds we’ll be losing in June. Other than the three events where I’m scheduled to speak, I have no appointments with churches, elderships or missions committees. Well, one, thanks to Ron. And this is supposed to be a fund-raising trip.
I will speak with one group of elders and missions committee members during one of the events, that’s already set up. I know the trip won’t be a waste, but I don’t want to spend long stretches with no prospects. Even a productive trip is a test of patience, to be away from home and wife and daughter. But to be away and twiddle my thumbs, so to speak, would be intolerable.
Perhaps things will fall into place. We do trust the Lord’s care for us, although the form it will take is still a mystery.
I ask your prayers for my wife and daughter at home, that they may be safe while I’m away, and for me to maintain faith in the Lord’s providence and focus for the purpose of this trip.
I should mention that Laura’s son is in ER at the moment, with headache, disoriented, mild abrasions, extremely sleepiness, evidently from a sleeper hold put on him by another student. She said the school is investigating.
Have you anything to remember in prayer tonight?
My favorite prayers would be Jesus’ prayer in John 17 and
Ephesians 3:14-21. “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height — to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
The content of these two prayers is so dazzling that we could fill endless amounts of sermons with the depth of their lessons. We are all richer because of them.
Looks like my book will head to the printer tomorrow. It should be out around the time I arrive in the U.S. next month. Please pray it may bless many.
Speaking of U.S. time, there are three events and four speeches to prepare for. It’s time to move on those. A calendar should go up soon on those and other slots. This is basically a fund-raising trip to replace lost funds. Pray for that, too.
Before that, The Missus and The Maiden fly to speak at a women’s retreat down south. Yup, both of them. This is time number three for them both. They’re getting a good reputation at this. Pray for them, too.
A couple of items as this Monday expires for me (but not for many of the Fellows, who should post, post, post). Check my FMag article, “The Mosquito Truck.” And see the short poem, “You Cannot See,” to encourage you to keep up your good efforts. Pray we all may keep our spirits high.
Kyrgyzstan’s government has been overturned. We have a friend and brother in Christ stationed there. Communication from there was shut down for quite a while. He got out news to his wife that he and the military base are currently safe, but the situation is tense. He asked that people remember to pray for that situation, as well as all the military personnel in harm’s way in different areas. His wife also asked to remember the Kyrgyz people.
After the high school shooting, now this report: Three people were killed and at least two others are in critical condition after a shooting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville this afternoon. Let’s pray for the survivors and those involved, all those affected. A second great blow to the city of my daughter-in-law.
I ask you to pray for Paulo, a brother in Christ here in SJCampos. On his way to work, a person stepped in front of his car and was killed. He’s at the police station now. Details, such as they are, are HERE.
UPDATE: See link above for update; Paulo’s been released.
