The secret of a good family life? Ron, Stephen, Laura and Joy have pretty well nailed everything down regarding a godly family life. The only thing I might add, is the concept of being a godly role model for our children. Children are going to model their lives after someone. It’s better for them to have godly parents and grandparents as role models, than Elvis, Britney Spears, or Madonna.
My parents and grandparents were my role models. They were godly people who took me to church when I was just a baby. Both my parents and grandparents were involved in the work of the church. They provided me with an example of how married folks should work together as a team. They were role models for morality, teaching me not to lie, cheat, or steal from my fellowman.
My grandmother read her Bible every day, and we often discussed its contents. She would tell me that the Bible has the answer to all of life’s problems, and so it does.
The bottom line is this: Children need (and want) someone to be their role model. What better persons could there be as role models, than parents and grandparents? (cf. Genesis 18:16-19; 2 Timothy 1:1-5; 2 Timothy 3:14-15).
