Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley is running for the Senate seat left open after the death of Senator Ted Kennedy. She is a Democrat. The race is garnering nationwide attention and has been very hostile. She was asked about being a Catholic and how that corresponded with her pro-choice position. [Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi recently faced the same question] Coakley stammered and came up with an astounding answer. She said that pro-life people should not work in the emergency room.
Why not extend that to anywhere in the hospital, for that matter? Or, any branch of health care. Would that be her position as a Senator?
It is always amazing when people back themselves into a corner with indefensible positions.
On a lesser note, offending Catholics while trying to win a Senate seat in Massachusetts is exceedingly unwise.
