A sermon on the 3 “seconds”

Bobby Cloyd of the Keltonburg congregation, in Smithville TN, printed the main points of his sermon today, entitled “3 Seconds.”

  • The Second Birth
  • The Second Coming
  • The Second Death

A great way to deal with last things and our need to prepare for them.

New articles with audio have been installed in the Old Paths Archive on this topic.

“The flesh is weak”

“Het vlees is zwak”

We praise God with gratitude and awe for the solution He has provided for the weakness of our flesh. Redeemed and sanctified, we can look forward to the time when we can be with Him forever.

For Thees and Thous

These sentiments are heard now and again and deserve some thought.

I cannot hear your news for thees and thous,
Your strings of memorized verses make me drowse;
I’ve yet to hear a single text explained
Within its setting — aren’t you people trained
To teach the unlearned down on their simple level?
I need to know how I can beat the devil,
Devote my life to God, fire up my hope,
And with my stumbling failures learn to cope.
In Bible class and sermon I’d like to learn —
To know the open word of God I yearn.

May the Lord bless you.

Bed sheet chart lesson on The Resurrection or Consequences

Douglas Williams preached a sermon from a chart lesson Sunday at the Geneva Church of Christ, Geneva, AL. “The Resurrection or Consequences” was one of the first charts to be hand painted by Glenda Williams, his wife, some 50 years ago. The chart was painted on a blue, full-size bed sheet. Charts have been used for many years to help preachers illustrate their lessons. Chart sermons are a rarity today, yet continue to be enjoyed by many

Are we a church of Christ? Lessons by this title have been installed in the Archive in both text and audio, in English and Dutch.

It is easy to call ourselves a church of Christ, but let us be sure that it remains true.

May the Lord bless you.

Faith demonstrated for seven days

One of the most wonderful things that you can do in your life is to create a desire to obey God. Many people, when they learn that they are lost, eagerly obey the Master. They obey God to be saved from sin. Each of us should do our best to have a heart that is willing to please and honor our Creator.

We must obey God seven days a week! “Obey” is a Bible word. The word obey is found in 67 verses in our King James Bible. Keeping God’s commandments is found in 63 verses in our King James Bible. Keeping God’s statutes is found in 47 verses in our Kings James Bible.

Anyone who reads the Bible, with an honest heart, will quickly conclude that faith must be demonstrated seven days each week. Christianity is not a Sunday-only religion; our faith must be demonstrated seven days a week. Continue reading
