10-10-2016 Jesus Is Only Begotten

“In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him” (1 John 4:9 NKJV).  Jesus is special because:

1) The word, “manifested” means “made obvious,” and so: “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13 NKJV); 2) He is God’s “only begotten Son,” because no one else has been made like Him!  Jesus is not God’s “only” Son, for “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:26 NKJV); 3) “And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin” (1 John 3:5 NKJV).  Jesus said, “if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins” (John 8:24 NKJV).

10-11-2016 Jesus Is Hope In Resurrection

Jesus said to Martha, “’I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?’ She said to Him, ‘Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world’” (John 11:25-27 NKJV).  1) Jesus gives hope for life after this life.  2) To prepare for this, one must be “buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses” (Colossians 2:12-13 NKJV)3)    No other religion can promise so much for so many!

10-5-2016 Looking For Messiah

Daniel the Prophet prophesied Jerusalem would be re-built and last “Until Messiah the Prince” (Daniel 9:25 NKJV).  Andrew told Peter, his brother, “’We have found the Messiah’ (which is translated, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus” (John 1:41-42 NKJV).   From prison, John the Baptist asked “’Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?’ Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Go and tell John the things which you hear and see’” (Matthew 11:3-4 NKJV).  Proof that “Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God” (John 20:31 NKJV) is found in fulfilled prophecy and the Gospel records of Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John.  Everyone who continues to look for “The Messiah” must deny: 1) the Gospel is true; 2) the Apostles knew; and 3) that Jesus has saved anyone!  Jesus said, “He who believes and is baptized will be saved” (Mark 16:16 NKJV).

9-11-2015 Why Were Scriptures Written?

“Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed” (Luke 1:1-4 NKJV). (1) Luke’s “orderly account” would make certain what Theophilus had only heard (i.e. “oral traditions,” or “gossip”); (2) This written Scripture completes the “word delivered;” (3) This “orderly account” was to certify truth distinguished from “many” other narratives; (4) “Certainty” of faith came from sure, written “scripture” and not from any other source!

The Son of Man is the Son of God

The religion of Islam will readily confess that Jesus was the Son the Man and its followers will quickly point out the number of times that Jesus referred to Himself with that title, but it readily denies that Jesus was the Son of God and its followers will quickly point out that Jesus never referred to Himself as such.

Regardless of the fact that Jesus did indeed refer to Himself as the Son of God and He confessed to be such before multiple people (Matthew 16:13-17, John 9:35-38) one of the key misunderstandings of Jesus’ nature when it comes to Islam is that the religion misses what the Son of Man taught about Himself when it comes to His authority.

In Mark 2:1-12 (a gospel that begins in a plain enough way concerning the nature of Jesus) Jesus proclaims and confesses to having the ability to do something that no mere righteous man would ever say unless it was absolutely true. After being accused of blasphemy Jesus tells a group of hard-hearted unbelievers He not only did what He did to prove a point, He said what He said so they wouldn’t miss the point – “Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins….

The power, authority and ability on earth to forgive sins?! Jesus was a son and He was a man, but when Jesus referred to Himself as the Son of Man He was talking about much more than what you could see on the outside. It was a sign that pointed to who He was. It pointed to the Messianic nature that was on the inside, for only God Himself has the power, authority and ability to forgive sins.

Angels proclaimed it (Luke 1:35), the demons couldn’t deny it (Mark 5:7-8) and the apostles preached it (John 20:30-31) – Jesus, the Son of Man, is Immanuel, the Son of God.

If Jesus didn’t deny it, why should we?

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God...And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1, 14)

Who is this man Jesus? by Charles Box

jesus-christWho is this man Jesus? The Bible accurately teaches that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. (Acts 8:37)

At His baptism God acknowledged Him as His Son. “And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17) This was also the case on the mountain where Jesus was transfigured and spoke with Moses and Elijah. “While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.” (Matthew 17:5)

Peter was correct when he confessed, “We believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.” (John 6:69)

Let us be convinced from scripture that Jesus is the Son of God.Continue reading

The Real Rock of the Church

When Jesus came to the area of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” They answered, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “You are blessed, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven! And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you release on earth will have been released in heaven.” Then he instructed his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ. From that time on Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and experts in the law, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.” (Matthew 16:13-21 – NET)

Unfortunately there are some in the religious world who completely miss the point of the above exchange between Jesus, the Son of God, and his chosen apostle, Peter. They sadly believe that these verses teach that the church of Christ, both locally and universally, was built upon Peter instead of what Jesus actually said the church would be built upon. Peter, along with the other apostles and prophets of God, helped to establish the foundation of the church through his teachings (Ephesians 2:20), but Peter is not the rock of Matthew 16:18 that the church is built upon.

The rock of Matthew 16:18 that the church is built upon is the foundational principle of Jesus’ sonship, not Peter’s apostleship. Jesus is the rock of the church in every way. And keeping things in the context of the above quoted scriptures, how, outside of the Father’s verbal declaration (Matthew 17:4-5; 2 Peter 1:16-19) and the witness of the scriptures of God (Psalm 2; Hebrews 1:1-4), was Jesus proven to be the Son of God? It was by his resurrection from the dead!

From Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God. This gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures, concerning his Son who was a descendant of David with reference to the flesh, who was appointed the Son-of-God-in-power according to the Holy Spirit by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 1:1-4 – NET)

This is why Jesus said the gates of Hades would not prevail or overpower the church’s foundation. Because death itself would not prevent the church from being built! The keys to the entrance of the kingdom were given to Peter (along with the other apostles, prophets and teachers of God) to use to let people into the kingdom, the church – but only Jesus has the keys to let people escape death, and their benefit is enjoyed through a belief in Jesus, the Son of God, and his conquering of death (John 11:25-26; Acts 2:22-41; Romans 10:9-10; Revelation 1:12-18).

This is why the scriptures refer to the body of Christ (Ephesians 1:18-23; Colossians 1:12-18) as the “general assembly and church of the firstborn” (Hebrews 12:23) – because Jesus was, is and forever will be the firstborn from the dead, which is the foundational principle of the church’s existence.

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness and his victory over the grave as the Christ, the Son of God, and the rest of the church rests upon that rock for that is the rock, the true word of God’s grace, that Peter, James, John, Paul and the rest of the apostles and prophets built the church’s faith upon (Acts 20:32; 1 Peter 1:3). And to attempt to build the church upon any other foundation is to miss the foundation, the true rock, which was revealed to Peter by the Father through Jesus his Son in Matthew 16:13-21.

We are coworkers belonging to God. You are God’s field, God’s building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master-builder I laid a foundation, but someone else builds on it. And each one must be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than what is being laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 3:9-11 – NET)
