What does the Bible say about feeding our souls?

by Douglas M. Williams, Sr.

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God and you have come to need milk and not solid food” (Hebrews 5:12).

“Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:1-2).

We not only need food for our physical bodies, but also food for our spiritual souls. Without food, living things die. Without food, your physical body will die. If you have pets, without feeding them, they will die.

All people need to feed their hearts and minds with the Word of God. God’s Word is the food for a person’s soul, and if people do not read and study God’s Word, then their souls will die.

Some of the things we buy come with an owner’s manual. In a similar way, the Bible is like an owner’s manual for us. God created us and knows exactly what we need to do and how we should live in order to be happy.

Wouldn’t it be good for all of us to read and study the Bible more than we have in the past? Now, at the beginning of this New Year let each of us resolve that we will do this.

Remember, if we love God we will keep His commandments (John 14:15). The Bible may be referred to as our “roadmap,” to tell us how to live and get to heaven. Also, God’s Word will judge us in the last day (John 12:48).

Happy New Year!

The church and our community (Charles Box)

Someone in your town or community will soon die without the Lord. Those who die without God also die without hope. (Ephesians 2:12) Please remember these are people who are precious to you. We must do our best not to allow people to die without the Lord. These beloved lost ones do not have to perish. (2 Peter 3:9) Christ Jesus gave His life to redeem the lost from sin. Jesus lived a life without sin and then died on a cross to save sinners. (Hebrews 2:9) If it were not for the death of Jesus God would have no choice but to punish men for their own sins. (Hebrews 2:2) But, Jesus died as our sin substitute. Paul wrote, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Are you putting forth an honest effort to win the souls of others? The gospel is God’s power to save. (Romans 1:16) We must share this salvation message with as many as we can. Our love, prayers, concern and effort may lead them to the “Lamb of God” so their sins can be forgiven. John said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)

Do you want to face God in eternity having done any less than your best in reaching the lost? Do you want to sit by and allow people you love, people who are precious to you, people you work with or even strangers to die without God and without hope? Do you want to look into the cold, lifeless face of a fellow human being and be left with the awful thought that you might have done something to have saved them if only you had tried. Will it do any good to deliver God’s message to our world? The word of God will accomplish that for which God sent it. “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11) Let us ring forth the word of God loud and clear! How foolish we have been in thinking it will do no good to get out into our community with the word of God.

Because the word of God is the word which brings salvation; God commanded that it be preached to every creature. “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” (Mark 16:15-16) The world will change only through the preaching of God’s word! Faith comes by hearing the word of God. (Romans 10:17) “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” (Hebrews 11:6) It is time to use the word of God to clean up our world. Let us get into our community with the gospel and the church will grow! Jesus was able to reach others because He was out in His community. We should follow the steps of Jesus and His steps will lead us out into our community. (1 Peter 2:21) As Jesus moved about in the community, He was able to find Zacchaeus (Luke 19); He found Nicodemus (John 3) and He likewise found the woman at the well. (John 4) He also taught many others as He was out in His community. Continue reading

Share A Bible Verse And Responsibility

When I think of responsibility, I immediately think of our responsibility to lost souls: http://mbriley.preachersfiles.com/2010/10/01/why-should-we-seek-the-lost/

“Go ye” means “Go me” (Matthew 28:19; cf. Isaiah 6:8).

The largest gathering I’ve ever been a …

The largest gathering I’ve ever been a part of would have to be a football game between the then newly formed Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants back in 1965. The game was in Dallas and the Giants won 31-10.

The largest spiritual gathering of souls that I’ve ever been a part of, was at the ACU Lectureships in the early 1980’s in Abilene.

What SEARCH is doing for the Lord!

Each week we at In Search of the Lord’s Way produce an evangelistic television program. Our program goes out to 80 broadcast stations, 300 cable systems, five satellites, and 50 radio stations. You can download the last two years of broadcasts on our website www.searchtv.org in audio, video, and transcript formats.

SEARCH fills almost 5,000 requests for information per program. We send out CDs, DVDs, transcripts, and audio cassettes. We have about 200 Bible Correspondence Course students at any one time. We offer the Upon the Rock Bible Studies. We also offer Study Sheets before each program that helps a student get the most out of each.

SEARCH goes out to a number of foreign countries, including broadcasts in Iceland, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guam, Guyana, and Korea. Over the Pacific Radio Broadcast, we go out to 30,000 islands in the South Pacific (from French Polynesia to New Zealand).

We are also on a couple of satellites with a base in Norway. One satellite covers Europe, the Middle East, and Northern Africa. The other twin satellite covers all of North America.

We can count a potential audience of 230 million, but we cannot count much of what we are doing. We think that we go out to more than 300 million.

Please pray for us in this ministry. We speak to more people by television than any other ministry among churches of Christ and are among the top three religious programs of any kind in America. We often get a larger audience than denominational broadcasts that appear at the same time slot.

Keep SEARCH in your prayers, please. I feel a very keen sense of responsibility to do my best on the program. God’s Word will reach souls (Isa. 55:10-11), but I know I must be faithful, loving, kind, and uncompromising in my preaching (Eph. 4:15). I often think of Col. 4:2-4. Pray that God will open a door for the Word!

God bless,
