Faces sometimes tell a lot more than we might think. Though we may try at times to hide our feelings, those who know us best can often tell by our eyes, the setting of our jaw, or other facial expressions how we truly feel. Such was the case with Nehemiah while serving as cupbearer for King Artaxerxes who noticed he had “sadness of the heart.” (Nehemiah 2:2) Our countenance can also be read by the world around us. As Christians, what is it telling them? Are we so somber that some think we have been drinking pickle juice? Are we down in the mouth as if all has been lost?
