9-8-2016 Your Own Opinion

“Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion” (Romans 12:16 NKJV).  “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion,” except, that is, when truth is involved!  Personal preference is not the same as truth.  Favorite colors, hair styles, school majors, football teams, or cars may vary, because there is not the same one for everybody!  But no one is entitled to the “opinion” that stealing can be right!  “Stealing” something that  belongs to someone else without their permission is wrong.  “Thieves break in and steal” (Matthew 6:19 NKJV).  Our opinion about it does not change the fact of the theft or the wrongness of it.  Our opinion must never be confused with “truth.”   The words “what I think” must not override “what God says!”

7-2-2015 Born Sinners?

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NKJV). These continuing actions are violations of God’s Law. Are babies born stealing? Do babies come out of their mothers reviling, that is, using coarse, vulgar language? Are babies born “extortioners,” stealing by force and violence? Certainly not! Such sinful behavior must be learned as they grow up. Just so with “homosexuals” and “sodomites.” No one is born this way, it must be learned as they grow up. Sin is a decision in life, and God “now commands all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30 NKJV).

Two teenage girls were caught stealing money off…

Two teenage girls were caught stealing money off a table at a supermarket in Boynton Beach, Florida. The table was being used by a Girl Scout selling cookies. When questioned by WPBF-TV, they said they had no remorse. One said on camera, “We went through all that effort to get the money. We got all these charges against us, and we had to give the money back.” The other added, “I’m not sorry. I’m just mad I got caught.” The girls were caught because they returned to the store the next day and taunted the little girl. Our society is adrift without a moral compass. Some call it progress. But if this is what it means to cut the apron strings of our Christian beginnings, I’m all for staying home. “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” This is Just A Minute.

What Are We Teaching Our Children?

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). The way that our children should go is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). What our children should never depart from is the world of God. That word will keep them strong, happy, and productive citizens of the country in which they live. More importantly, it will keep them faithful to the Father with full assurance of a place in heaven one day. Sadly though there are many parents that are teaching their children things they ought not to learn.

While grocery shopping in our local “super” mart, I happened to notice a mother with a young boy in the buggy she was pushing. They were both eating a snack size bag of Cheetos. A few minutes later I was in the fruit and vegetable section and again saw the same mother and son eating. This time however they were sharing a banana. Being thoroughly disgusted at what I had just witnessed, my thought turned to the child and what he was being taught. One thing is certain, that young boy was not being taught to respect the property of others.

According to our God, stealing is a sin. The command “Thou shalt not steal” is found not only in Exodus 20:15 but also in Matthew 19:18, and Romans 13:9. 1 Cor. 6:10 even more emphatically shows the evilness of stealing: “Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” That mother in the “super” mart was teaching her child something that will keep him from gaining eternal life with God.

If a child learns that it is okay to take a piece of fruit from the store without paying for it what will keep them from stealing something else even more valuable. Once a child learns that taking what is not theirs is an acceptable way to gain possessions, then they also learn that hard work is pointless. They will learn that honesty is a trait only religious zealots possess.

Jesus taught that “A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things” (Matt. 12:35). Perhaps that mother did not intend to teach her child to steal but that is exactly what she was teaching him. We must always be aware of what we are teaching our children not only by what we tell them but also by what we show them. God does care about what we are teaching our children.

(#86) The Proverbs of Solomon 14:23-No “Communism” Here!

Since God Created humans, only God can provide specific understanding of human behavior. God gave Solomon Divine Wisdom (1 Kings Chapters 3 and 10) to explain what and why behavior is as it is, and Proverbs 10:1-24:34 are randomly written, as if they were Solomon’s judgments about individual cases brought to him, or simply God-given explanations about life. New Testament passages may help see the continuation of Wisdom offered through Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 14:23: “In all labor there is profit, But idle chatter leads only to poverty.”

Since God established the “work ethic,” where there is no “labor,” there is no “profit” (capital, benefit, earnings). In the Garden of Eden, God gave man a job, “to tend and keep it” (Genesis 2:15). After Adam sinned, God expelled him with a job: “In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread” (Genesis 3:19).

God’s endorsement of this principle, through Solomon, was: “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might” (Ecclesiastes 9:10); “The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, Whether he eats little or much; But the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep” (Ecclesiastes 5:12). A communistic welfare state, which takes from the workers and re-distributes to non-workers, promotes slothfulness: “The desire of the lazy man kills him, For his hands refuse to labor. He covets greedily all day long, But the righteous gives and does not spare” (Proverbs 21:25-26). This proverb is added to Christ’s Law: “Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need” (Ephesians 4:28). Another proverb of Solomon is taught in the New Testament: “The person who labors, labors for himself, For his hungry mouth drives him on” (Proverbs 16:26); “For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10). God’s damnation is upon all efforts to by-pass His “work ethic” principle: covetousness, stealing, extortion, excessive or punitive taxes, scams, schemes, gambling and lotteries (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).

Solomon also showed the “vanity” of giving workers’ profits to non-workers: “Then I hated all my labor in which I had toiled under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who will come after me. And who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will rule over all my labor in which I toiled and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity. Therefore I turned my heart and despaired of all the labor in which I had toiled under the sun. For there is a man whose labor is with wisdom, knowledge, and skill; yet he must leave his heritage to a man who has not labored for it. This also is vanity and a great evil” (Ecclesiastes 2:18-21). Whatever “profit” that comes from honest “labor” belongs to the “laborer,” and no one else! Losing control of what one has worked for kills any incentive for working. Since God charged men with “work,” Marxism/socialism is a direct attack on manhood, and an enslaving of womanhood who must do man’s work!

“Idle chatter” (empty talk) profits nothing, and destroys people who believe it. All who talk about work instead of working are leading to “poverty” and NOT “profit!” Marxism, and all who follow it, is rebellion against God that impoverishes nations. It has never been a success, and never will! Jesus shows a spiritual application when He said: “’Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.’ Then they said to Him, ‘What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?’ Jesus answered and said to them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent’” (John 6:26-29). Neither physical nor spiritual “profits” are for those who “will not work!” America was rich as long as it was not a “welfare state” that “re-distributed” the wealth of its workers! All economies bankrupt when workers’ profits are used by non-workers!
