The “biggest” “fastest” “mostest” has always held appeal…

The “biggest”, “fastest”, “mostest”, has always held appeal to some Americans as they strive to find their way into the Guinness Book of World Records. But now this same contagion has infected China. America has 5,187 champions recorded in the book. But China is climbing fast and will soon challenge the US for record holders. With a population of over 1.3 billion, they are likely to overtake us eventually. They already enjoy the record of the most ping-pong balls caught with chopsticks in a minute, 17; or the most needles inserted into the head, 2009; or the heaviest train pulled by a rice bowl suctioned onto one’s stomach, over 36 tons. Dong Chen, who makes a living hiring out as a witness to these record-beating attempts, says, “It’s amazing what people will do to be number 1!” Of course, there is nothing wrong with one’s name in Guinness, but I’d far rather find my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life when the Lord comes calling.
