When one’s moral compass is so confused because of political alignment then such comments like this are spoken: “I believe Jesus would approve gay marriage,” he said. “That’s just my own personal opinion.”
There is no chance this would be the case and, in fact, there is no chance this is the case. Our former president is plainly confused when it comes to this matter. It is no wonder, however. His alignment is more with his political leanings than it is anything with regard to God.
Do you think this is an arrogant evaluation on my part? You might want to think again. The scriptures are clear on this matter.
For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done (Romans 1:21-28, ESV).
Jimmy Carter is not the only confused man in this world with regard to God; many have already followed the path he is on. What makes this tragic is that he was once our national leader, still is a leader to some varying degree, and continues to wield influence in certain circles. To those who know Scripture he wields little to no influence because our former president does not know God like he thinks he does.
People like me are dismissed as out of touch with the current reality of this world. Be that as it may, I would rather be out of touch with this current reality of the world than be out of touch with God.
How about you?
